Bruce Kennett has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a book of eleven short stories written by book designer extraordinaire, W.A. Dwiggins and accompanied by 130 of his illustrations. Dwiggins tried unsuccessfully to get the full book published in his lifetime, though he did manage to get four of the eleven stories published separately. If the Kickstarter is successful, the book as Dwiggins dreamed it will be made. Athalinthia is proposed in two states, the Regular edition ($60) and the Deluxe edition ($360). Both are printed via offset lithography by Penmor Lithographers, set in Dwiggins’ own Caledonia type. The Deluxe state will be bound in quarter red leather by Gray Parrot. The size is small at 5.75″ x 7.5″ but should fit nicely in the hand. Check out the Kickstarter here – as of this posting there are 20 days left in the campaign and it has been 64% funded.
